We take/use our mobile phones everywhere we go. In fact, a study by Dscout found that the average cell phone user touches their phone 2,617 times every day, leading to a buildup of bacteria. Therefore, it is imperative that we take care of them and clean them often.
Here are some sanitation methods and tips recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
Before Cleaning
- Unplug your device
- Remove any cases or covers (these should be cleaned separately before reinserting your device)
- Power off your device before any of these sanitation methods
- Wash your hands (before and after cleaning)
Top Ways to Sanitize (Apple and Samsung Recommended)
Good: 70% alcohol wipes or Clorox wipes
Better: 70% alcohol solution carefully applied to a microfiber cloth
Best (What We Use): UV Sanitizer Cabinet
- The germicidal UV light kills 99.9% of harmful germs, viruses, and bacteria
- We use the sanitizer cabinet for 30 minutes at a time to ensure that devices are as clean as possible for ourselves and our clients
- Generally costs around $150
Tips/Tricks
- Don’t spray cleaners directly onto your device
- Avoid aerosols and products containing bleach
- Always read/follow the directions on the label
- Disinfect small areas by using disinfectant solution on a cotton swab
- Avoid getting moisture in openings
- After sanitizing your device, wait at least 15 minutes before returning it to its case
- After visiting a public place, wash or sanitize your hands before using your device
- When practical, sanitize your device DAILY
